9-10’s Rep: 2025 season-in-review

The High Park 9s-10s season was inspiring and unforgettable: an underdog story about a group of players who got cut from their rep teams and then became Champions. Rather than let a setback define them, they wrote their own story — becoming the HELLCATS, a new rep team built on grit, hustle, and heart — turning adversity into adrenaline and accomplishment.

SEASON HIGHTLIGHT: Nothing will beat the Scott Tokessy Memorial Gold Glove Tournament in Kanata. It was our fourth tournament of a long, hot summer. We’d been getting progressively better all season, and it all came together here. We were undefeated heading into the Championship game. It was a tight game against the host team, nerves were high. We get to the bottom of the 6th and we’re up by 3 runs. Our closer takes the mound. We get 2 quick outs. Nobody on base. Our coaches are trading tense glances — just one more out to win. Foul ball, strike 1. The parents are on their feet — everyone is cheering. Strike 2 looking. You can see that the kids know they’re on the brink of something special and they’re dialled in — gloves down, ready. Strike 3 swinging. Everyone explodes. The kids rush to home plate screaming and hugging each other. The pure joy on their faces when they all raised the trophy together was priceless. It was celebration and catharsis all in one. They played all season like they had something to prove, and they proved it. They became Champions. But more than that, they showed us what it means to be undefeated.

Our players are special. These kids didn’t just play the best baseball of their lives; they made friendships and memories to last a lifetime. They played for each other, they cheered for each other. They bought into the team dynamic and backed each other up, on and off the field. It fills us with pride that our kids even cheer for each other and celebrate across the field for each other in their House League games when they’re playing on opposing teams. There’s just a lot of love and respect here. The buy-in on this team was 100% — and you don’t get that from kids unless you have it from the parents first. This team asked a lot of its players and its families, and they all delivered with smiles on their faces.

LESSONS FROM THE SEASON: Getting cut from a team is heartbreaking. Every one of these players could have accepted that heartbreak and declined to play for this team. Instead, they chose more baseball. They chose to work harder and get better. And they all did. Every practice, they showed up early. Every inning, they left it all on the field. Every tournament, they played up and climbed in the standings. They learned how to battle in close games. They learned what it feels like to lose by a lot, and what it takes to be resilient and bounce back. They learned how to dig in and be unrelenting. They played with fire and pride, and they won with grace. These are kids who refused to quit because they love the game. And this season…the game loved them back. HELLCATS FOREVER!
