Do you have a love of baseball? Are you looking for an opportunity to mentor youth? High Park Little League is looking for a dependable person to serve as the T-Ball Umpire-in-Chief for the 2023 Season. Our program has 14 teams of seven- and eight-year-old girls and boys playing over 150 games over the course of the season.

Responsibilities. Reporting to the High Park Little League Vice President, T-Ball and accountable to the High Park Little League Board of Directors, you will…

  • Lead the recruitment of youth umpires for High Park T-Ball.
  • Oversee 40-45 umpires throughout the season.
  • Build and update a database of umpire names and contact information.
  • Alongside the Little League Baseball Umpire-in-Chief, hold two on-field training sessions for incoming umpires.
  • Create and manage scheduling of umpires throughout the season. This includes reshuffling the schedule or filling in for no-shows or last minute cancelations.
  • Communicate and coordinate the schedule with umpires and their parents.
  • Organize payroll information throughout the season and coordinate with High Park Little League Treasurer to ensure all umpires are properly compensated for their work.
  • Attend several games throughout the season and give the umpires confidence to address any issues that arise.
  • Mentor, inspire, and give confidence to youth umpires throughout the season.

Qualifications: To be eligible for this job it would be nice if you…

  • Have played through the High Park Baseball program and understand how High Park T-Ball is structured.
  • Have obtained Ontario Baseball Level I Certification or have previously completed Little League umpire training at High Park.
  • Be able to learn the details of T-Ball rules at High Park and teach them to the umpires.
  • Are able to obtain Vulnerable Sector Screening Police Check from your home municipality.
  • Are comfortable communicating with youth and adults regarding scheduling and responsibilities.
  • Have demonstrated leadership skills, can guide and mentor youth to learn a new skill and succeed in it.
  • Are organized and able to manage a schedule that changes on a weekly basis throughout the summer.
  • Are available to fill in or find last-minute umpire replacements as they arise.

Honorarium: $500 for the season.
