High Park Baseball celebrates Opening Day 2021 -

It’s finally here! The 2021 Little League season begins today.

And while the traditional bagpiper will have to wait until next year to welcome players as they don their jerseys for the first time and parade onto Ernie Keith field (please enjoy the photos from the “before times” in 2019), there’s lots to celebrate as we kick off the 2021 season.

Thanks to the parent volunteers who have organized teams across the divisions to provide a safe playing environment. The kids have shaken off the rust and now the fun and learning that has always been the hallmark of High Park baseball will be in – ahem – full swing.

And speaking of parents and volunteers, a lot of people have been asking what the initials DK stand for on High Park’s new house league hats. The letters stand for Daniel Keith, who passed away last summer at the age of 24 after many years playing and coaching at High Park Little League.

Daniel’s story is the latest chapter of one family’s remarkable baseball journey at High Park that extends back two generations to his grandfather – Ernie Keith – for whom our HPLL diamond is named.

The Keith family’s legacy is testament to the volunteers who have built the wonderful tradition that is High Park baseball. So as the boys and girls take the field to kick off the season, let’s honour Coach Daniel and the spirit he brought to the game and our community.

Let’s… play… ball!
