Minor Division
The High Park Minor division is a house league for players aged 9 and 10 (review Little League age guidelines) consisting of eight teams.
The High Park Little League house league program is highly regarded for the quality of players developed and the competition of play between teams. In order to play in the house league, children entering the Minor division must attend two evaluation workouts in the early Spring to allow coaches to assess the skill level of players. In order to provide a level playing field for all teams, children are drafted on to a team (the team that finished last during the previous season drafts first, and so on). While attendance at these workouts is mandatory to play during the season, regretfully it does not guarantee a spot in the league as there are often many more player applicants than spots available. Players with siblings already in High Park Little League are given special consideration. Once placed on to a Minor teams, players do not need to take part in any future evaluations.
Players are drafted into a “franchise” team. Once on a minors team, a player graduates into their franchise’s major team. There are eight teams in the Minor division: Bisons (Orioles franchise), Cannons (Pirates franchise), Colonels (Athletics franchise), Cyclones (Mets franchise), Jets (Red Sox franchise), Knights (White Sox franchise), Leafs (Expos franchise), and Monarchs (Cubs franchise).
In the Minor division, players are introduced to pitching and base stealing; players are rotated through infield and outfield positions at the discretion of the head coach. Each team plays one or two games per week, which are held before the Major game and lasts approximately 2 hours. Weeknight games occur at 6pm, while weekend game times from May to August will vary. Umpires are provided by the league.
All players registered in this division are required to attend pre-season assessments. Assessment times are selected during registration. High Park Little League welcomes both T-Ball graduates moving up to pitching for the first time as well as new players who reside within the HPLL boundaries.
Each team plays one or two games per week, which are held at 6 pm during the week and last 2 hours. Weekend games are played in May and June, with some weekend games in July and August. Players are expected to arrive 1 hour before the game for warmup activities and skills training. All games are played at Ernie Keith field. Practices take place at Ernie Keith Field as well as diamonds surrounding High Park.
Scores are kept and standings maintained for the regular season, which wraps up in late August. Overall standings influence playoff brackets (1 vs 8, 2 vs 7, etc.) held each September, with three rounds of playoffs series held to determine a division champion (rounds 1 and 2 are best-of-3 games, finals are best-of-5 games).
