What division(s) of play in HPLL is/are being cancelled?
All divisions (Instructional, T-Ball, Minor, and Major) and rep programs are cancelled for the 2020 season.
Under Phase 2 of the Province’s reopening plan, outdoor team practices are allowed. Toronto has now moved into Phase 2, so why can’t our 2020 baseball season continue?
The HPLL Board has assessed whether we can offer our members the season they have registered for, and it is clear that even under Phase 2, we cannot. Phase 2 does not allow for team competitions to resume, only practices, and the current 10-person limit on gatherings does not accommodate a complete HPLL house league team. We also do not know when, or if, we will be able to obtain a permit from the City to use the High Park baseball diamonds.
Can I receive a credit towards next year’s registration instead of a refund?
For administrative reasons, we will be only be issuing refunds.
What would the modified and shortened program include?
We do not know at this time. If we are able to offer such a program, it could consist of group skills sessions, team practices, or possibly even games. The decision as to whether such a program can be run, and if so, what it will include, will be made at a later date based on the latest public health recommendations and return-to-play best practices.
Would my child have to participate in the modified and shortened program in order to maintain their spot in the league next year?
No. Participation in any such program would be entirely optional, and any child who would otherwise have a spot in HPLL next year would not need to participate in the program in order to maintain that spot.
Note: Consistent with previous years, 8 year-olds who are aging out of T-Ball will need to attend an evaluation in early Spring for the opportunity to be drafted to a team.
My child is 12-years-old and is graduating from HPLL this year. What are my child’s options for baseball next season?
HPLL does not offer baseball beyond the age of 12. However, there are many options, both in the area and outside of it, for players to continue playing baseball at the house league and competitive levels. We encourage parents to contact their child’s HPLL coach about what level of baseball might be right for them based on their current level of development.
