New Pitching Mound at Ernie Keith Field

Something that often gets overlooked it how much time is spent maintaining our two baseball diamonds. Krystle Welsh of the HPLL board has worked diligently with City of Toronto staff from High Park to fix the decaying conditions of our pitching mound. On Monday, High Park and West End parks staff enlisted the expertise of their East End park colleagues to help rebuild the mound at Ernie Keith Field as well as the bump at Jack Wilson Field, the large senior baseball diamond just to the west used by the West Toronto baseball club. Pitchers were even able to take to the hill that night. The black hole of centre field also received some seeding and soil work.

The reconstruction ended up being a professional workshop moment for the City’s West End parks crews on how to rebuild the specific types of mounds required by our respective baseball leagues (it also requires many more bricks than anyone would expect). Many thanks to Shane at the park for his continued help and support.
